What are other options for replacing teeth?

At Bay Dental Group in Sault Ste. Marie your dentist will consult with you to determine if dentures or dental implants are the most suitable for you. While dental implants are becoming increasingly preferable to dentures, not everyone may be a candidate.

Dentures and dental implants vary in cost, with dental implants typically the more expensive alternative however your dental insurance plan may cover some or all of the cost of dentures or dental implants so you should consult with your insurance provider beforehand.

What types of dentures do you offer?

Conventional dentures are typically removable, however may different denture designs now exist. Some rely on bonding or clasping onto the teeth or dental implants. Dentures that replace all of your teeth are called full dentures, while partial dentures replace only some of the teeth in your mouth.

How does the denture procedure work?

The denture process typically takes about three to six weeks and may involve several dentist appointments throughout. Your Bay Dental Group dentist or prosthodontist (a dental restoration specialist) will consult with you and determine the best treatment process.

Typically, a two step process:

  1. The appointment will commence with digital imaging and making a series of impressions of your jaw and measurement of your jaws in relationship to each other;
  2. Models and wax forms in the exact shape and position of the required denture will be made and the denture will be assessed for colour, shape and for fit before a final denture is cast. When the denture is cast, adjustments will be made as appropriate.

While dentures are most commonly fixed into place with an adhesive, they do run the risk of slipping while eating or speaking. Dental implants however are fixed and surgically implanted into the jawbone.
