Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is one way to manage dental anxiety by taking medication in order to have a relaxed and comfortable dental treatment. Oral sedation provides helpful support for our anxious patients by reducing anxiety to a manageable level.
When is dental oral sedation used?
We often recommend oral sedation as an option for patients who are very nervous or anxious during dental appointments. It is a solution for both short as well as long appointments.
How will I know if oral sedation is right for me?
If you are nervous about your upcoming dental treatment, please speak to our team of dental professionals. There are many different types of medications used to manage dental anxiety.
Our team will thoroughly review your complete medical history in order to determine if you are a good candidate for oral sedation. Once we confirm that oral sedation is right for you, we will be able to recommend the best medication.
Depending on the type of oral sedation we suggest, you may be required to take medication the night before the procedure in order to get a good night sleep and then take a second dose in the morning before you arrive at your appointment.
Can oral sedation be combined with any other treatment?
Yes! Oral sedation can be combined with nitrous oxide to provide a very complete treatment for your dental anxiety.
Can I drive myself home after the procedure?
It is not recommended to drive following an appointment under oral sedation.
You will need to have someone to drive and accompany you to your appointment as the medication could make you very drowsy.
Once home, you should have someone arrange to stay with you, as you may be drowsy for the rest of the day.
