The root canal procedure
A root canal procedure typically requires one or more dental visits and is performed by your Bay Dental Group dentist or an endodontic specialist. An x-ray or digital image is taken to assess the shape of the root canals and any indication of infection in the surrounding bone. Following a local anesthetic, a hole is drilled and the tooth pulp and bacteria, decayed nerve tissue and related debris is removed so the tooth can be filled and sealed.
Following my root canal
Following the root canal procedure, a simple home care regimen and follow up will help mitigate complication risks. Your dentist may prescribe anti-inflammatories or antibiotics to help assuage the risk of infection.
A crown or crown and post may be placed on the tooth, for protection. Following the root canal procedure, you maybe able to enjoy food and drinks without sensitivity or pain.
